SAA knocked out during final

ISL Top Eight final a success.

The Industrial Soccer League (ISL) held their Top Eight Knock-out Tournament final at Hattingh Park, in Primrose, last Saturday.

“The ISL is a league which is made up of eight teams from companies within the metro,” said the founder of the ISL, William Shwayiba.

“The league started in April, last year, so we thought of adding a tournament to the ISL to keep the players active.

“The tournament started on March 13, with only four teams making it to the semi-finals, and now only two, South African Airways (SAA) and Quadrant Chemplast, in the final.”

Shwayiba also said that among other things, healthy living is one of the vital goals for the ISL.

“The primary aim of the ISL is to unite the companies and have them work together, all while promoting good health and a healthy lifestyle,” he said.

The eight teams registered in the ISL are: Joy Global, Al-Clad, Sandvik, KSB, South African Airways (SAA), Naledi Rail, Quadrant Chemplast and Transnet.

Shwayiba told the GCN that the committee has great plans for the league.

“We are currently in talks with Moroka Swallows FC; the plan is to choose players from the eight teams to form one team that will play with Swallows,” he said.

“This will give them more experience. We are also looking to have a very competitive team which will represent Ekurhuleni in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

“I may be wrong, but when it comes to teams, the metro is not represented in higher levels like the PSL. It would be great to have a whole team representing Ekurhuleni in the PSL.”

Quadrant Chemplast and SAA concluded the tournament with a score of 4-3, making Quadrant the champions of ISL’s first Top Eight Knock-out Tournament.

“Looking at the commitment from the teams, together with the success of the tournament, we are planning on making this an annual tournament,” concluded Shwayiba.
