Gate kills Laerskool Oosterkruin Grade One pupil

Grade One girl dies in sliding gate accident.

A Grade One pupil from Laerskool Oosterkruin died tragically on Monday afternoon, when a sliding gate fell on her.

The incident took place at about 4pm, at the aftercare centre she was attending in Sunnyridge.

Mark Rudman, owner of EMRS (Emergency Medical Response Services) was the first paramedic on scene.

“I found the little girl lying in the driveway and immediately started CPR,” he said.

“The patient had severe head injuries.”

The youngster was transferred to the Life Roseacres Clinic, but unfortunately died as a result of her injuries.

Principal of Laerskool Oosterkruin Chris Kruger told the GCN the incident was a huge shock to the school.

“She was a beautiful little girl, a typical Grade One, full of life, and we are going to miss her,” he said.

“It is unbelievable and I don’t know how her parents will be able to get over this.”

Sgt Styles Maome, the communications officer for the Primrose SAPS, said that an inquest docket had been opened at the station and they were investigating a case of a gate falling on a child.

The GCN has attempted to contact the parents of the child for comment, but have been unable to reach them as yet.
