Spelling Bee invitation to Grade Seven students

Calling on all Grade Seven pupils to take part in the exciting Spelling Bee Competition.

The Joburg East Express Spelling Bee Competition 2014 was well received last year and won the Best Original Idea award at the recent Caxton Excellence Awards.

Caxton is excited to announce that this event will now be open to Grade Seven pupils attending school in Germiston, Kempton Park and the east of Johannesburg.

The competition, powered by Caxton Community Newspapers and sponsored by Hirsch’s and Walton’s, will test the students’ ability to spell.

This Spelling Bee was developed to afford our future leaders an opportunity to grow their public speaking prowess, while improving their speech and promoting unerring usage of the English language, pronunciation and spelling.

As the custodians for the future of this country, it is in our best interests to tackle all the channels that seek improvement within the education system of this country, to mould our children for a better tomorrow.

If you are in Grade Seven and would like to participate in this year’s Spelling Bee, you may ask your school to register with Thembi Mncwabe, from Caxton, by emailing to thembim@caxton.co.za.

In the email, please provide her with your school’s name and contact information.Your school will receive further instructions and will be automatically registered.

The schools will have to conduct monthly knock-out contests, using a list of words supplied by Caxton, to test the students.

Each month, the school will supply the newspaper with a list of names of students who have made it to the next level.

The contest starts on May 11 and registrations close on May 8.

For more information, call Mncwabe on 011 916-5349 or email to thembim@caxton.co.za.
