Lawnmower thief nabbed by police

No grass cutting for this thief.

The Elsburg SAPS tracked down and arrested an alleged lawnmower thief, on Thursday, in Buhle Park.

They were contacted at about 8.40am by the owner of a house in the area, who had been told by his neighbour that someone had taken the lawnmower out of his garage.

“The neighbour said the man told him that the owner had instructed him to take the lawnmower,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

“The man went off in the direction of Leondale and the owner told police he had not given anyone permission to take his property.”

The police drove towards Leondale and saw a man pushing a lawnmower.

“They approached him and he confirmed that he had stolen it in Buhle Park,” Phooko said.

“He was arrested and detained at the Elsburg Police Station, on a charge of theft.

“The suspect, aged 21, will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon, to face charges of theft and possession of suspected stolen property.”
