Man arrested for housebreaking

Man left at scene of crime by his accomplice.

The Katlehong police recently arrested a 30-year-old man in the Kwanele section.

The man, who was charged with housebreaking, theft and the possession of stolen property, was arrested on Friday, March 20, when the home owner reported the incident to police.

The home owner explained to officers that he heard a noise outside his house and went to investigate.

He saw the man walking out of his front gate with his plasma TV and chased after the suspect, who was approaching a vehicle parked just outside the gate.

The vehicle sped off before the suspect was able to get in, leaving him to attempt an escape on foot.

The home owner, together with a community patroller, chased after the accused and the pair was able to corner him.

When the police arrived on the scene he was arrested and taken to the Katlehong Police Station for questioning, where he gave officers the address of his accomplice.

Officers travelled to the address given but did not find anyone there, but a number of goods were seized, including school bags and a TV set.

Officers continue to search for the accused’s accomplice.
