Track and Field in Germiston

Great athletics action.

Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) hosted the third track and field league meeting of the season, at the Germiston Stadium, recently.

“With the provincial and national championships set to take place in March and April respectively, we have three confirmed league meetings for February and March,” said CGA’s Mbalenhle Ngema.

“These leagues will give enough competition opportunity for the athletes, and will enable them to qualify for the provincial team for the South African Championships.”

Athletes from different parts of the country came out in numbers to take part in the day’s events.

Julia Lutz from Germiston Callies was among those present, and was placed first in the 400m sub-youth track event.

“It was a bit tough in the beginning but I picked up pace, focused and managed to reach the finish line in first position,” she said.

According to Ngema, the two hour challenge which was scheduled for today, February 18, has been cancelled due to schools having their meetings at the Germiston Stadium.
