Police warn local CPFs

Some CPFs are overstepping the mark.

The police stations of the Germiston Cluster recently issued a warning to their local CPFs to not remove children from their parents or guardians without police involvement.

“Members of Community Policing Forums and the community should not remove children from their parents; only police officials with a ‘Form 36’ are able to remove children,” explained Sgt Styles Maome.

“As police we are receiving many complaints where it is alleged that members of the CPF are removing children from the care of their parents or guardians.”

The GCN spoke to Wendy Morgan, secretary of the Primrose CPF, who said: “This instruction came from the cluster head of the SAPS to warn all the community patrollers and CPF members in the Germiston Cluster not to get involved in any incidents with children or families.

“This incident did not happen in Primrose.

“We are not aware of where the incidents did take place, but have been warned, as the Primrose CPF, not to get involved in any such incidents.”

Maome went on to explain that any CPF members involved in such incidents will be charged.

“If you feel that there is a need for a child to be removed from a home or situation, call the local patrol vehicle to come and assist,” concluded Maome.
