A 52-year-old woman was arrested by the Primrose SAPS, on Sunday, January 18, for selling liquor without a licence.
The arrest was made while officers were on a foot patrol of the Makause informal settlement.
Officers noticed a sign reading “Liquor for Sale”, followed the direction indicated and watched a number of community members buying and drinking alcohol from a house.
They entered, identified themselves and searched the premises.
When they found a number of cases of beer, they asked the owner for her liquor licence and, when she was unable to produce one, arrested her.
“Liquor cause troubles in the informal settlements and we will keep on having similar operations to curb the sale of alcohol without licences,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officers for the Primrose police.
The woman was taken to the Primrose Police Station and was later released, after paying an admission of guilt fine.
