Choose a sport and join a club

Local sports clubs re-open.

Most of the local sports clubs closed towards the end of last year, for the festive season.

It is the third week into the New Year and most have re-opened and invite everyone interested in joining them to do so.

The GCN was able to get hold of some of the local clubs’ practise times and dates.

  • Tebbutts Mixed Martial Arts Academy re-opened last Monday, January 12.

The club practise every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 6pm to 8pm, and every Saturday, from 6am to 8am, at the Lambton dojo, 8 Hilton Avenue.

  • Germiston Callies re-opened last Tuesday, January 13, and hold time trials every Tuesday, at 6pm.

The trials are over 4km and 8km distances and start at the Germiston Stadium, on Delville Road, Northand.

All runners and walkers are welcome.

The clubhouse will be open after the time trials, every Tuesday, for people who want to join the club.

  • Germiston Simmer Rugby Club also re-opened on Monday, January 12.

They hold practises every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6.30pm to 8pm, at the Germiston Stadium.

  • Luso Africa FC’s senior team started with pre-season training on Tuesday, January 20.

Players, 18 years and older, are welcome to join the club; the team practice every Tuesday and Thursday, from 7pm to 8.30pm, at Hattingh Park.

  • Lambton’s Pilsung Taekwon Do started with training last Tuesday, on January 13.

Practises are held every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6.45pm to 8pm, at the Physique Gym building, corner of Anna Street and Seventh Avenue, in Lambton.

  • Victoria Lake Canoe Club invite canoeists to their time trials, at the club, from 5.45pm, every Tuesday.

  • Ekurhuleni Tennis School of Excellence also welcome new members to join the club.

The club practises at the Germiston Stadium tennis courts every Saturday, from 9am to noon.

  • Unique Physique Gym invites all bodybuilders, or those interested in bodybuilding to the gym, at 111A Rietfontein Road, Primrose.

The gym is open seven days a week; Monday to Friday from 4am to 9pm; Friday from 4am to 8pm; Saturday and Sunday from 7am to noon.
