Pitbulls euthanised after attack

Owners agreed that it was in the dogs best interest, to have them humanly put to sleep - says Germiston SPCA.

The Germiston City News recently reported on the attack and death of a 45-year-old Laerskool Oosterkruin groundskeeper.

The man was viciously attacked and killed by three pitbulls, while standing on the pavement in Wert Road.

The man and one of the three pitbulls died on scene while the other two pitbulls, were seized by the Germiston SPCA.

The GCN has since received comment from the Germiston SPCA, on what has happened to the remaining pitbulls.

Yvette Berridge manager of the Germiston SPCA explained, “In the afternoon of Saturday, December 27, we responded to the pitbull attack.

“We admitted one male and one female, as well as the body of another female that had reportedly been shot by an off-duty police officer.

“Together with an inspector from the National Council of SPCAs, we met with the owners of all three pitbulls on Monday, December 29.

“At the end of our discussion with them, they agreed that it was in the dogs best interest, to have them humanely put to sleep.

“This was done the same day, December 29, with the owners present.”

The Primrose police continue to investigate a case of culpable homicide.

The GCN will release more details as they become available.
