Ithembelihle rewarded for food gardening

Ithembelihle at the top with nutrition.

Women farmers and school projects from around the country were honoured by the international food and beverage company Nestle South Africa in Sandton, recently.

Ithembelihle Lsen School, located in Primrose East, was one of the schools that received awards for food gardening.

Nestle rewarded schools and communities that improve the nutrition status of their community.

Ithemelihle Lsen School received two Nestle Community Nutrition Awards; one provincial and one national award.

Ithembelihle employees were thrilled to win the awards.

“I feel very honoured to win the awards, we are encouraged to work harder and to contribute to the sustainability of the students and the country,” said Ithembelihle Lsen School principal, Leonor Ngozi.

“Health and wellness has always been one of the school’s missions.”

The school started food gardening projects in 2009 to ensure nutrition supplementation, knowledge and skills development among the students involved.

“I am impressed that our school is provincially and nationally recognised for food gardening and nutrition, we are also recognised by the Department of Education for the work we are doing,” said one of the gardeners at the Ithembelihle Lsen School, Edward Sitabule.
