Mayor applauds officers for arresting “Chicken”

Ekurhuleni's executive mayor congratulates EMPD on job well done.

Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, has congratulated the EMPD and police for excellent work following the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of little Cuburne van Wyk (3), of Ramaphosa, near Reiger Park, in Boksburg.

“This is excellent work on the side of the EMPD and the police; this is the kind of policing we expect from them and they have really done an amazing job,” Gungubele said, adding that hopefully the truth will now come out as to why the boy was killed, so that the family can have proper closure.

“This kind of hard work and determination must continue with all cases, regardless of their profile.”

The mayor said this latest turn of events gives him extra hope that a breakthrough will soon be made in the case of little Taegrin Morris (4).

Taegrin was laid to rest a couple of weeks ago, after dying a horrible death in a car hijacking.

“I wish to reiterate the call that communities must continue working closely with the police so that more arrests can be made,”Gungubele added.

“I remain confident that, working together, we can easily flush out criminals from our communities.

“Our areas cannot be a paradise for thugs.”

The mayor will attend Cuburne’s memorial service, in Reiger Park, at 2pm today.
