Man nabbed with unlicensed gun

Quick work leads to arrest of wanted man.

Germiston police members went out to assist a security company reaction officer on Thursday.

The SW Security’s Theunis Botha had apprehended a man in Chris Street, Dinwiddie.

Upon the police officers arrival at the scene Botha handed over one suspect to them, as well as an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to Botha, he had responded to a panic alarm that was pressed by one of their clients in a complex in Chris Street.

As he entered the premises he noticed a man walking towards the gate.

The complainant identified the man Botha had just passed as the suspect and said he had pointed a firearm at her and demanded money.

The security reaction officer reacted swiftly, found the man and apprehended him.

He was searched and a pistol was found in his possession.

“Consts Tlou Selolo and Bongani Ngcutsha arrested the man and he was detained at the Germiston Police Station,” said Germiston SAPS spokesman WO AndrĂ© de Jager.

“He is due to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon, on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and pointing a firearm.”

After further investigation it was found that the man is also wanted in the Midrand area, on a charge of possession of stolen property.
