Smash-and-grab leads to arrest

Suspect arrested for smash and grab.

Primrose police members, with the help of the Mamba Security Company, arrested a suspect, aged 21, in connection with a smash-and-grab at the corner of Richdale and Shamrock roads.

It is alleged that the victim had stopped at a red traffic light, when the accused and his friend broke a car window and took a handbag containing R2 800, medication, a cellphone, bank cards, an identity document and a driver’s licence.

Members of Mamba security, who were driving behind the victim, witnessed the incident, gave chase and managed to catch the suspect.

They called the police and handed him over for detention.

“As police, we thank the members of the security company for their bravery and the role they played in the arrest of the suspect,” said the communication officer for the Primrose SAPS, Sgt Styles Maome.

“Together we can make Primrose a safer place to be.”

The suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court and the case was postponed for plea and trial.
