Carnival hosts Rotary Fundraiser

Carnival City host charity challenge.

Carnival City invited five Ekurhuleni-based Rotary organisations to participate in the Carnival Charity Fundraiser on Thursday, May 29.

The five Rotary clubs were from Germiston, Nigel, Boksburg, Benoni and Boksburg Lake.

The clubs competed in games of American roulette, blackjack, money wheel and slots, with the aim of raising funds for the charity or charities of their choice.

The five clubs were selected based on the special projects they submitted for consideration.

The projects had to qualify and dovetail with the Carnival City and Afrisun Trust key CSI focus areas, namely social welfare (homes caring for abused women and children), education and health (paediatric wards, local hospitals and clinics).

The Rotary teams were made up of two club representatives, one representative from the club’s local newspaper and two MVG members.

Each team member played one of the games previously mentioned.

Germiston Rotary was represented by Rotary members Charlie Kane and Valerio Sartori, GCN’s Leigh Hodgson and MVG players Martie Swartz and Nathasha Armogan.

The teams were given training on the games, followed by a set amount of playing time.

Each player tried their best to win as much credit as they could, as this credit was converted into points at the end of each game.

The winning team was the team with the most points at the end of all the games.

After an exciting round of gaming the scores were counted and the teams positioned as follows:

  •  Fifth place, Nigel Rotary Club with 13 588 points.

The team won R2 500 for their chosen charity.

  •  Fourth place, Boksburg Rotary Club with 14 532 points.

Their team won R5 000 for the charity of the club’s choice.

  •  Third place, Germiston Rotary Club with 15 865 points.

Germiston Rotary won R7 500 for their chosen charities.

  •  Second place, Boksburg Lake Rotary Club with 16 377 points.

The team received R10 000 for their chosen charity.

  •  First place, Benoni Rotary Club with 20 925 points.

Benoni Rotary won an impressive R25 000 for their charity.
