Scaw to participate in West African trade conference

Local company takes part in trade conference.

The participation of corporates in trade conferences has become an integral part of doing business in the 21st century, as it brings together all the decision-makers of a particular industry on one platform, to aid discussions between various parties.

With this in mind, Scaw Metals Group, a leading steel and steel products manufacturer in South Africa, located in Germiston, will be participating in the 11th West African International Mining and Power Exhibition (Wampex), in Ghana, from May 28 to 30.

The exhibition seeks to capitalise on the rapidly growing and fast developing mining sector in Africa, inviting participants from major mining equipment suppliers from different parts of the continent.

With Ghana as the host nation, this event serves several countries in Africa, many of whom depend upon mining as a significant means of economic development.

“We have been participating in various exhibitions over the last year and we have seen what benefits they hold for organisations like ours,” said Markus Hannemann, chief executive officer of the Scaw Metals Group.

“We have recently moved into Ghana with the construction of our new plant, and we believe that much will be achieved by our participation in Wampex.”

The Wampex exhibition is supported by the governments of Nigeria, Mali and Senegal, where mining is a major economic activity and an important means of uplifting the economic conditions of the local citizens.

This industry also plays a pioneering role in the development of the power, construction and infrastructure sectors in West Africa.

Scaw will be showcasing its grinding media, cast, chain and wire and rope products.

“Our broad based product range is widely used in different industries, largely mining-related, but also within the offshore marine, construction, engineering, cement, railway and agricultural sectors,” said Hanneman.

“As all products are manufactured to international quality standards, customers are assured of receiving the right quality product, at the right time, at competitive prices.”

Scaw will also take part in the 2014 Copper Belt Mining Agricultural and Commercial Show (CMACS), in Zambia, from May 28 to June 1.

This will be the 57th time that CMACS or Zaminex will take place, and this year’s theme is “sustainable and environmentally responsible development – beyond Zambia’s jubilee”.
