Metro response to sewage problems

Metro responds to resident's concerns.

The GCN recently (see GCN, April 25), reported on a sewerage problem at the corner of Oak Avenue and Peach Road.

We have since received comment from the metro as to what caused the sewage leak and what steps will be taken to resolve the problem.

“A contractor was appointed by Rand Water to install new water pipes in the Primrose area.

“During the pipe installation the contractor is believed to have broken sewer lines.

“We have since repaired three breaks.

“The contractor is responsible for road reinstatement in the area and inspections will be done before metro signs off on the project,” said the metro’s department of communications and brand management, Lebogang Ramashala.

Resident’s concerns over the health risked caused but the sewage was not addressed.

The metro also did not make it clear how long the installation of the new water pipes, and necessary repairs may take.
