Business robbed twice in one day

Alleged thief fatally wounded in robbery.

An alleged thief was fatally wounded after attempting to rob a spaza shop in Nitrogen Street in Buhle Park on April 19.

The shooting occurred when police arrived on the scene of the robbery at about 7.30pm that evening.

Elsburg SAPS acting station commander Lieut-Col Zonele Qangase told the GCN that on that day the shop was actually robbed twice.

The first robbery took place at 1.30pm and the thieves made off with airtime valued at R1 000, cigarettes and R3 000 in cash.

The owner open a case at the police station and then later that evening two unknown men entered the shop and started robbing it.

The police were contacted and officers arrived at the scene while the robbery was still in progress.

When they saw the police the intruders drew their firearms and shots were fired.

As a result of the altercation between the police and the thieves, one of the intruders was fatally wounded.

He was a resident of Katlehong.

The other man managed to evade arrest and is still at large.
