Helping children learn maths

Local NPO puts mathematics first.

Maths Our World is a semi-autonomous, non-profit organisation established in September, 2013, by Tom Shupikai.

The organisation is going to serve as a training “arm”, to assist public school pupils, in order to improve the number and quality of mathematics passes and to close cumulative gaps in learning.

Saturday classes will commence on March 8, and will focus only on Grade Four and Eight mathematics, because Grade Four is a transition grade from the foundation phase, and Grade Eight is a transition grade from primary to high school.

Parents will have to pay a fee to help with the rental of the premises, as well as printing of booklets for the pupils, but the organisation has put a system in place to secure funding so that disadvantaged pupils will eventually have access to free education.

For registration and more information parents can call 011 057-2341 or 061 358 5410.

The classes will be held at the Institute Status Acres Secondary School College, situated at the corner of Oosthuizen and Railway streets in the Germiston CBD.

Pupil registration will take place the college on March 8 from 8am to 10.30am and lessons will start at 11am.
