Primrose police arrest five

Five nabbed for possession of firearms.

The Primrose police recently arrested five people, aged between 20 and 30, in the Delport and Marathon informal settlements.

They were nabbed for being in possession of firearms with live ammunition, and two toy guns.

The police received a complaint about mob justice in the Delport informal settlement and rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival they found members of the community assaulting a man accused of robbery.

When the police interrogated him, he allegedly told them that he did not work alone to rob people, but as part of a team.

He then led the police to his accomplices’ homes, in the Marathon informal settlement, where they were found in possession of unlicensed firearms, live ammunition and toy guns, which they allegedly used when committing robberies.

All five suspects were arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station.

“As the police we are still requesting our community not to take the law into their own hands, but to report criminal activities and to let the law take its own course,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“We thank the community of Delport, who worked with the police in this operation,” Maome added.

All five suspects appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where their case was postponed for further investigation.
