Local learners make school proud for language excellence

This year, the Grahamstown-based body allowed juniors from Grade Nine to participate. Previously, they restricted it to Grades 10, 11 and 12.

Edenvale High School learners excelled when they competed in this year’s English Olympiad

Written during the first week of March, competitors stand to win various prizes, including scholarships at Rhodes University, from the nationwide competition.

This year, the Grahamstown-based body allowed juniors from Grade Nine to participate. Previously, they restricted it to Grades 10, 11 and 12.

EHS registered 46 English Olympiad writers.

The results were phenomenal: Jonathan Gatter (Grade 11) placed 15th, Abigail Smethurst (Grade 11) placed 32nd and Rachel Adlard (Grade 12) placed 41st in the country.

Certificates either for merit, bronze, diamond or gold achievements will arrive in October.
