An off-duty Sebenza police officer was shot dead on Firefly Street in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, on Saturday.

Spokesperson for the Kempton Park SAPS, Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego, said that the police officer was sitting in a vehicle in front of a student accommodation with a female passenger.
“They were approached by three suspects driving a white VW Polo,’’ she said.
Ditshego added that numerous shots were fired by the suspects before they took the officer’s service pistol and his blue Hyundai Tucson.

She added that the motive behind the shooting was unknown and would form part of a detailed police investigation.
