CGA hosts 2023 cross-country first league

With over 900 athletes taking part, the league was hosted in collaboration with Ubuhle Athletics Club and was well supported by various clubs.

Central Gauteng Athletics hosted the first league of the season at Sam Ntuli Stadium.

The first race of the day was boys and girls U8 running a 1km race, in which Mila Scholtz won the girls’ event with Junior Mwa of Thembisa taking the first position at the boys’ event.

Mwa, who also dominated last season, is an athlete to look out for as he seems determined to maintain his standards again this season.

Central Gauteng Athletics PR and communications intern Nongcebo Siziba said the other highlight of the day was the junior boys U19 8km race, which produced an impressive performance by Zenzile Tumelo Pheko of Kopano AC who dominated the event with his 25:08.

ā€œIn the same race, the second place went to FFA athlete Katlego Khelemithi and the third position went to Johannes Morepe,ā€ said Siziba.

All eyes were on the 10km senior women and senior men races.

In the men’s category, Sakhie Sangweni lead the race to finish first in a time of 30:50, with Letsepa Madume finishing second with 30:59. Third place went to Donald Mashamaite clocking 31:34.

Cacisile Sosibo dominated the senior women’s category with her first place in a time of 33:26.

Farida Zwane of Rockies claimed the second position in 36:14 and third place went to Kutlwano Mphanya.
