Top performances were on display for the crowd, which included Siyabonga Uzoho of Delville, Germiston, who won the 200m senior race.

John Diamond, Steven Sabino and Maria Diamond attended the ASA Grand Prix Series Continental Tour Challenger at Germiston Stadium.

Uzoho competed in the 100m earlier in the day and finished in third place. He finished the 200m senior race in a time of 21:68.

Given that he had just recovered from an injury that had kept him on the sidelines for some time, Uzoho claimed that the competition was difficult.

“After my injury, I had to put in a lot of work to get back in shape. I didn’t come into this tournament expecting to win, but I did want to give it my all. I am presently concentrating on the university championships,” said Uzoho.

Vendors, spectators, authorities, players, and coaches from all around the town and neighbouring areas crowded the Germiston Stadium.

John Diamond of the Diamond Elite Camp was also seen at the spectator benches where he cheered for his athletes.

According to him, local athletes are motivated by events of this nature.

“We had the opportunity to connect with international athletes and coaches at this event. Ferdinand Omanyala, a Kenyan athlete was here and we snapped a picture with him,” said Diamond.

“Working together implies that, with the level of talent displayed in the Grand Prix, we may compete with international athletes at the following Olympics.
