Primrose SAPS confirmed the body was found on March 23 and a case of murder has been opened.

The veld in Eros is filled with undesirables and residents are concerned that it poses security to them.

“This happened in a secluded area. The man had been stabbed and he was declared dead on the scene.

“The motive for the killing is unknown,” said Primrose SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Styles Maome.

Residents have reported overgrown grass at this site for months and have now expressed anger.

According to residents of Eros and Moon streets, the veld has been a problem for months and they now fear for their safety.

Belinda Venter said people are sleeping in the veld and leaving undesirable items behind.

“They sleep in the veld and urinate everywhere. The grass is almost as tall as me and it is becoming a security risk as we don’t know who hides in there.

“We have removed so much rubbish from this space, from dead dogs and cats to rubbish,” said Venter.

She said the veld has become unpleasant for those living in the area.

The overgrown grass has become a problem for residents. They have been requesting for the grass to be cut.

“The space has even encouraged illegal dumping.

“The stench comes into our homes. There are always people lurking around the veld in the early hours of the morning. This has become a security risk for us.”

Florida Maia, who also lives near the veld, said as the community they are worried about their safety.

“This murder has shaken the residents. We are upset because we have been reporting and requesting for the grass to be cut. Council has not been helpful.

“A life is lost, and you would think this would be an eye opener on how a simple thing as grass cutting can pose a threat to residents,” said Maia.

Residents also criticised Ward 36 Clr Wendy Morgan’s approach to resolving their concerns.

“The land belongs to Gauteng province, and no one seems to know which department. Ekurhuleni parks department is not responsible for the cutting of the grass. I will send a request and see if they can cut the grass,” commented Morgan.

The grass was cut a week few days after the body was found.

Attempts to confirm which provincial department is responsible for the land were not successful at the time of going to print.
