Illegal miner arrested in Primrose

Authorities confiscated mining equipment when they conducted the operations on March 15 at Makause, Delport and Marathon informal settlements.

Primrose SAPS, Gauteng police, metro police and security companies visited Primrose informal settlements to combat illegal mining operations.

Authorities confiscated mining equipment when they conducted the operations on March 15 at Makause, Delport and Marathon informal settlements.

Primrose corporate communications Sergeant Styles Maome, said they confiscated generators, gas cylinders, gas bottles, motors, phenduka machines and various other items.

“We will continue to conduct similar operations in our area,” said Moame, adding that on March 9, the Primrose SAPS apprehended one suspect for illegal mining.

“A member of Blue Hawk Tactical, an anti-illegal mining unit, handed over the suspect to the police.

“The 36-year-old suspect was carrying a nylon bag containing gold-bearing material sand.

“The police established before interrogations he was in the country illegally.

“They detained him at Primrose station pending his appearance in court,” said Maome.
