Germiston police unresponsive to recent CBD death

On the night of June 7, the deceased told Nalane he was not feeling well only to be found dead in the morning.

Linda Nalane, a homeless woman, discovered the body of her companion in the Germiston CBD on June 8.

The man named Mark was found dead with his hands on his chest.

Nalane and Mark had found shelter at an old building opposite the Golden Walk Mall.

Nalane, said she had been looking after him before his death.

On the night of June 7, he told Nalane he was not feeling well.

“I live next door to his room so I always helped when he needed help.

“We called the ambulance during the night but it never showed up,” she said.

“On Wednesday, when I woke up I found him dead. He once went to the hospital but returned without medication. I still don’t know why,” said Nalane.

“I went to the police station to report his death but they instructed me to get the social workers out,” she said.
“There is no identity document and no one knows where he originates from,” said Nalane.

Maxwell Mabunda, the spokesperson for the Germiston Police Station, said there has been an inquest docket opened with the station.

“When a body is found, residents should call the ambulance to come and certify the person dead.”

“If foul play is suspected the police will be notified,” said Mabunda.
