Celebrating International Nurse’s Day

Nursing is a very special profession as the amount of time they spend with patients give them a very special insight into those patient’s specific needs, be it medical, physical or mental.

On May 12, 2022 we commemorate National Nurse’s Day. If one looks at the roles and responsibilities of nurses in healthcare, the way that they deal with patients on an individual basis, tending to all their medical needs, the support they give, the care, to only name but a few… then it is very clear that nursing is a calling and these special people are the backbone of any healthcare system.

Nursing is a very special profession as the amount of time they spend with patients give them a very special insight into those patient’s specific needs, be it medical, physical or mental. Most people will be able to identify with the feeling of vulnerability when you are in hospital or even a clinic, not sure of which procedures will follow, not sure of the outcome, and the stress that goes hand in hand with all the feelings of uncertainty. The calming and caring of even one nurse can take you from stressed to calm as you know you are being taken care of and your needs are taken into account.

Nurses have a very special role as the link between doctors and patients, they assist with the care plan as they work very closely with each patient.  The nurses are the ones that have to carry out the care plan with medication and treatment administration, keeping a close eye on each patient that all goes according to plan. Many times a medication won’t work with a certain patient and then the first by your side to assist will be the nursing team.

If we look at the time of Covid-19 that we are living in at the moment, with a possible looming fifth wave, we look back at the selfless way in which our healthcare professionals have worked day and night through the worst times of the pandemic, sustaining our healthcare system and trying their utmost to keep us safe.  Risking it all for the promise they made as healthcare professionals, to try to get us through what has been a very strange few years starring in a ‘sci-fi’ movie called ‘Corona’…

We want to honour our nurses all over the world, and specifically here on home soil. Thank you for all that you do to keep us safe!  Thank you for all you do to keep us calm!  Thank you for all you do to keep us cared for!  Thank you for all your selfless commitment!  Thank you for everything, we salute you!
