Bezuidenhout celebrates her birthday by giving to the Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA
She hopes their story can encourage other citizens to do the same.
Sonja Bezuidenhout recently celebrated her 60th birthday.

Instead of celebrating her day with gifts, she asked her family and friends to donate dog and cat food or money to the Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA.
“I was inspired by my friend, Elize du Rand, who celebrated her 70th birthday earlier this year and requested her family and friends to do the same,” said Bezuidenhout.
She said she hoped their story can encourage other residents to do the same.
“At a certain age, we have everything we need and don’t need gifts that are going to be placed in the back of our cupboards. The contribution I have received for my birthday gave me such joy knowing we can assist an organisation such as the SPCA,” said Bezuidenhout.
