“Walking with earphones in your ears or talking on the cellphone makes you more vulnerable. Victims of muggings alleged perpetrators are both on foot and others drive around in cars,” said Sgt Styles Maome from Primrose SAPS.

Maome mentioned vehicles involved include a white VW GTI, a blue Mazda and a white BMW.

“We are trying our best to bring them to book; however, we appeal to our community and visitors to try to avoid secluded places,” said Maome.

“Walking alone in the dark in informal settlements is unsafe, and it is best to walk in groups.

“Taking the law into your own hands is an offence. We are still encouraging our communities to report any criminal activity or any incidents of crime to the police on 011 842 0500/ 086 001 0111 or by calling the sector numbers on 071 675 6864/5/6/7/8/9,” said Maome.
