Swim to Paddle students pass CSA swim test

The Club congratulated the local resident swimming coach Richard Wade, who has spent the past 18 months working with these students, getting them with zero water safety awareness or experience, up to a level where they could successfully complete the CSA Swim test unaided.

It was a great weekend at Victoria Lake Canoe Club on January 22 for the Swim to Paddle programme as 11 students successfully passed the Canoe South Africa swim test.

The club congratulated the resident swimming coach Richard Wade, who has spent the past 18 months working with these students to get them up to a level where they could complete the test unaided.

“We look forward to registering all 11 candidates on the CSA development programme in time to compete at GCU Sprint Championships,” said Wayne Saunders, chairman of VLC.

The Swim to Paddle initiative was started to reach out to youngsters from the surrounding Germiston schools who have never had the opportunity to learn how to swim or canoe and allowed them to learn the sport and life skill.

Each swimmer was sponsored by a VLC member for a six-week basic swimming and water safety course.
