Ida said, “Van Wyk was one of the youngest members of the choir when he joined in 2005. It helped to develop his passion for music, which he would like to share with the next generation of musicians.”

Van Wyk was part of the choir from 2005 till 2007, where he toured with the choir to the world choir games in China in 2006.

After that, Van Wyk was part of the famous Drakensberg Boys Choir and the Midlands Youth Choir.

With the help of his dad, Adri Venter, who will be accompanying the choir, he hopes to lead the choir to new heights and to elevate the community.

Van Wyk also has a BMus (Hons) which he obtained from the University of Stellenbosch in 2020.

The choir will be divided into two groups, with the group from Alberton practising on Monday afternoons and a group from Germiston practising on Friday afternoons.

Van Wyk’s goals for the choir is firstly to provide learners with the opportunity to learn and to perform exciting and challenging music they will enjoy.

“Hopefully, we can start travelling again on both a national and international level so we can compete again,” said Van Wyk.

If your children is interested in joining the choir, you can contact 082 157 1407 for an audition or register on the choir’s website (www.cantare.org.za) for an audition.
