Germiston SAPS responded to the call at 07:00 after receiving a complaint about a shooting at the taxi rank, where one man was shot dead. Const Maxwell Mabunda, communications officer of Germiston SAPS, said when the police arrived at the taxi rank, they found a grey Toyota Corolla with a man in the driver’s seat.

“It seemed he was drinking tea when he was shot. There were 13 empty cartridges around the car. The deceased is known at the rank as a queue marshal. He was 46 years old and resided in Katlehong.

“Paramedics were called and he was declared dead on scene. With the preliminary investigations, it is suspected to be a taxi violence-related case.

“Police are asking those who might have seen what happened to come forward.

“As police, we believe if we work with the community we can deal with criminal activity in the community,” said Mabunda.
