Wendell Olsen claims Champion of Champion’s title

Champion of Champions new champ crowned.

Eastern Gauteng Pool Association (EGPA) held its singles championship finals and champion of champions knock-out tournament for 2021 at Brakpan Pool Club on November 13.

The finals for each division were played on the day in a race to five format to determine first and second place.

There was a great turnout with good cheer and high spirits throughout the day. Most of the matches were live-streamed for everyone to view.

Starting the day off was the juniors final, where Wendell Olsen beat Alrico Appolis 5-2.

In the seniors match, Gerda Lottering beat Joseph Huyzers 5-3. Abie Visage dominated in the masters, winning 5-0 against Stoffel Kock.

The Eastern Gauteng Pool Association Champion of Champion’s title for 2021 goes to Wendell Olsen.

In the men’s category, JP Viviers claimed victory against Donovan Smit 5-2.

It was a close match for the women, where Jackie Els won 5-4 against Lottering. In the open, Aron Donahue beat Visage 5-2.

The mixed doubles were won by Lottering and Brendan Grobbelaar and the runners-up were Bobby and Delia Pringle. Congratulations to Lottering and Visage for making it through to the finals in more than one division.

The winners in each division then took to the table in a knock-out format for the overall Champion of Champions title.

Eagles Club had a great representation in this tournament, with five of their players battling it out in the main event of the day.

The champion of the champions final was between Olsen and Grobbelaar.

Tensions were high, with a close score of 5-4 keeping the spectators on the edge of their seats. Congratulations to top junior player Olsen for claiming the overall champion of champions title, finishing his last game with a whitewash.
