Middleweight boxing contest on the cards

Junior middleweight contest on the cards.

Boxing fans will have their usual end-of-the-year tournament, as Golden Gloves Promotions (GGP) is looking to stage a junior middleweight tournament that will conclude a difficult year under the pandemic protocols.

On a date still to be announced for December, GGP will host an All-African Junior Middleweight Tournament with the likes of Brandon Thysse, Roarke Knapp and newly crowned national champion Shervantaigh Koopman.

“We are lucky to have three exceptional junior middleweights,” said GGP promoter Rodney Berman.

“Each one of them will certainly be a dominant force in Africa and I suspect all three of them will make their mark on the international stage as well. For now, we will keep them on different paths. We don’t want them to knock each other off just yet.”

Their opponents will be announced shortly, as well as the rest of the boxing cards.

In the meantime, International Boxing Organisation (IBO) cruiserweight champion Kevin Lerena has moved to the heavyweight division.

He is recovering well from a broken right hand and his debut in this division will probably take place in February.

Also on the cards is the No Love Lost Lost tournament at Emperors Palace on December 4 in the form of a Box ‘n Dine. For more information contact Jeff Ellis on 078 457 3030.
