Daimond Athletics Club needs sponsors to continue polishing talent
The Diamonds have always shared an interest and love for athletics.
The Diamond Athletics Club needs assistance to be able to continue doing their sports development work.
“As a club, we have several needs. We are passionate about unearthing talent, but we don’t have enough financial backing,” said John Diamond, co-founder of Diamond Athletics Club.
The club needs aid with transportation, a track training facility, training equipment, primary nutrition and physical education.
“With these resources, we can focus on grooming the talent and offering enough support to children who come to the club with nothing except potential.”
The club was founded in 2010 by husband and wife John and Maria Diamond and has since grown in leaps and bounds and produced top athletes. The Diamonds have always shared an interest and love for athletics.
The club is registered with Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA).
Maria and John are ASA accredited with l two and three sprints, hurdles and long jump certificates. The club has produced top athletes over the years, such as Tebogo Miya, who ranked third in the long jump at the IAAF World Youth Championship in 2018, and Cheswill Johnson, who won a silver medal in the long jump at the CGA Championships with a distance of 8.24m.
Johnson came fourth at the ASA Siswe Senior National Championship in 2019 at Germiston Stadium and qualified for the Olympic Games with a leap of 8.27m at the Athletics Gauteng North Bestmed Tuks Track and Field Meeting in Pretoria on February 27.
