WATCH: Children think broader and deeper with reading

We read every day whether we are aware of it or not.

Sharon Mastara (40), a library information science graduate responsible for the Hawk Academy’s library, spoke more about the importance of reading.

“It stimulates the mind of a child. It also encourages them to think broader and deeper. It helps children gain knowledge which is important for their success academically, socially and in other aspects of their life.”

Sharon emphasised the importance of access to books to assist children academically.

“The library and the classroom work hand-in-hand to assist the learner. Things like reading gaps can be easily identified in the library, then I can help.

“Reading can be fun with programmes like readathons. It is rewarding to see a child who struggled to read get to a point of developing a real relationship with books.”
