Police aim to curb crime related to abuse of alcohol

On November 11, three suspects were arrested in Makause, Marathon and Delport informal settlements in Primrose for selling liquor without a licence

On November 11, three suspects were arrested in Makause, Marathon and Delport informal settlements in Primrose for selling liquor without a licence during an operation conducted by Primrose SAPS.

“The liquor operation was conducted to reduce gender-based violence that is coming from the informal settlements,” said Primrose spokesperson Sgt Style Maome.

Three taverns in total were closed down.

“As police, we have noticed that some of the gender-based violence incidents emanate from liquor abuse. We will continue with similar operations to curb crime related to abuse of alcohol in our area,” said Maome.

Two of the three suspects paid admission of guilt fines and were warned and released, while the third suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
