The safer school programme is a national campaign by SAPS to prevent school-based crimes.

Many children face teenage pregnancy and bullying in schools.

On October 19, Primrose SAPS visited Hawk Academy in Primrose to address these issues which hinder children from focusing on their schoolwork.

Primrose SAPS communications officer Sgt Styles Maome was joined by Sgt Oriel Mabasa from the adopt a cop programme, Pastor Elias Leholo from the Makause Church Forum and Primrose SAPS Victim Empowerment Committee (VEC), Ekhupoleni Mental Health Centre members Pamela Guduza and Sibongile Daba and the Department of Social Development Intake and Field social workers Vicky Dlamini and Sylvia Vermaak.

Ekupoleni’s Pamela started the talk with a topic on teenage pregnancy and said one of the reasons for teenage pregnancy is peer pressure.

“One of the ways to prevent teenage pregnancy is to abstain,” she advised learners.

Pastor Leholo emphasised how the learners should not give in to peer pressure.

“We are your advocates and we are here to fight for your rights, our doors are always open.”
