“When we visited the schools we were welcomed by the principal and staff members of the above-mentioned schools,” said the communications officer.

According to Mathobela, the team had motivational talks with some younger grades and Grade Six and Seven learners.

“They addressed major concerns such as gangsterism, bullying, human trafficking and sexual assault.”

Mathobela said VEC talked about the Covid-19 regulations and precautions.

Mhloleli explained how shared spaces should be well ventilated.

She said if a fan is available it should point it out to a window and another window should be kept open to facilitate increased air exchange in the room.

“Avoid contact with farm and or wild animals alive or dead.”

The learners were also encouraged to report any criminal activities.

“Police have a high level of commitment in the fight against gender-based violence and will ensure that women and children are kept safe in the community. There is zero tolerance to such heinous crime in our society,” said Mathobela.
