50th donation celebration for Eastleigh resident

For Jackie, an Organ Donor Foundation (ODF) volunteer, donating blood is something she feels strongly about.

Ten years after she became a blood donor, Eastleigh resident Jackie Allen made her 50th donation of blood to the SA National Blood Services (SANBS) on September 27 in Linksfield.

“I am very proud of myself for this achievement. I have bad veins and it was sometimes difficult for nurses to find them.”

For Jackie, an Organ Donor Foundation (ODF) volunteer, donating blood is something she feels strongly about.

Jackie has been involved in promoting awareness for ODF since 2016 and helping others after her husband, Steve, fell ill and needed a liver transplant.

“You have to help people where you can. It is just something that I feel strongly about.

“I was brought up and taught to help others, so if you can help somebody reach their dream and lend a hand, why not help where you can?”

Jackie said most of her family members are also blood donors and when possible the family goes as a group to donate blood together.

Community members interested in donating blood may do so at:

• Meadowdale Mall at the Dis-Chem court on October 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18.
• Greenstone Shopping Centre at the Checkers court on October 14 and between October 16 and October 31.
• Karaglen Shopping Centre’s foyer between October 28 and October 30.
