Rand Refinery donates a vehicle to Bertha Gwoxa Hospital

“The donated vehicle is fully kitted with a medical kit, oxygen tanks and a tracker system.”

The Bertha Gxowa Hospital received a HiAce 2.5lt vehicle and other donations from Rand Refinery on August 31 as part of their corporate social investment initiative, which focused on Covid-19.

Communications and public relations officer Thabile Mkhatshwa said the donation included but is not limited to the vehicle to serve as patient transport, PPE, furniture, sanitisers, non-contact sanitiser stations, disposable crockery and cutlery and a 50-inch smart TV.

The donations were handed over during a ceremony at the Disaster Management Centre in Ormonde, in the presence of deputy health minister Joe Phaahla and acting MEC Jacob Mamabolo.

Mamabolo thanked and assured the sponsors that the donations will be taken care of and accounted for.

CEO of Rand Refinery Praveen Baijnath thanked frontline workers for their efforts during the pandemic.

“We have pledged over R10-million towards the fight against Covid-19.”

He said the company decided to lend a hand after learning that Ekurhuleni, which is the home of Rand Refinery, was listed as a hot spot for the pandemic.

Phaahla, the keynote speaker, expressed his gratitude to the company for their generous donation.

Acting CEO at Bertha Gxowa Hospital Zodwa Mofokeng expressed her joy at receiving the donation and said it was much needed to assist the hospital in the fight against Covid-19.

She also thanked the sponsors for the role they were playing as the private sector.

“The donated vehicle is fully kitted with a medical kit, oxygen tanks and a tracker system. Tambo Memorial Hospital also received the same donation,” said Thabile.
