Busted: Drugs seized in Kempton and Germiston speedster arrested

Monday (August 10) was an eventful day for EMPD after a Germiston motorcyclist was arrested for speeding, followed by a major R2.5-million drug seizure in Kempton Park.

“At 10am on the N3 freeway direction south the Rand Airport off-ramp, a 30-year-old male riding a blue Yamaha motorcycle, who claimed he was test driving the machine, was arrested for speeding. He clocked 226km/h in a 120km/h zone,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

The suspect was charged with reckless and negligent driving after being escorted to Germiston Police Station.

Mokheseng said the EMPD North Task Team patrolling West Street noticed a suspicious-looking silver VW Polo sedan, with a male driver, during a crime-prevention operation just before 9pm.

“On approach, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot.

“On closer inspection of the VW Polo, officers found 10 packets containing Mandrax tablets, seven packets of crystal meth and four fullmoon rocks. The drugs were stashed in door panels and in the boot.

“The VW Polo was impounded at the nearest police station for SAPS members to conduct further investigations.”
