Ackermans Pharmacy gives back to the community during Covid-19 pandemic

Ackermans Pharmacy once again showed its care for the community by handing out 1 000 food parcels.

There was joy on recipients faces last Thursday and Friday when Ackermans Pharmacy handed out 1 000 food parcels to needy recipients.

The food parcels equated to about 4.2 tons of food and each parcel contained maize meal, rice, a maize snack, two masks, tinned food, soya mince, soup, powdered cold drink and hand sanitiser.

The rice in the parcels was donated by one of the pharmacy’s customers and the maize snack and powdered cold drink was donated by Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan, with the pharmacy sponsoring everything else.

Masks were also handed out to beneficiaries as they arrived to collect their parcels and strict social distancing protocol was followed.

The donations were handed out at the pharmacy over the two days.

Johan van Wyk, owner of Ackermans Pharmacy, said: “We have always been involved with the community and are very concerned about the impact of Covid-19 on people.

“As the pharmacy we are blessed and we want to give back to the community, especially to the day labourers.

“We approached the Primrose CPF for assistance in choosing the beneficiaries and members told us that Morgan had a list of people who were in desperate need of help.”

The people on Wendy’s list were contacted and appointment times for collection were made with them so as to alleviate long queues of people.

During the collection phase other community members also began arriving and the pharmacy took their names to see if they could help them.

Ackermans Pharmacy staff members who made up and handed out the parcels were pleased to be able to help the community.
