Covid-19: Makause residents taught about Covid-19

Officers from the Primrose Police Station, community patrollers and members of the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk visited Makause informal settlement amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, residents within informal settlements remain some of the most vulnerable.

With this in mind a team of officers from the Primrose Police Station, community patrollers and members of the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk visited the Makause informal settlement, last Saturday.

The team distributed 3 000 safety-tip and educational pamphlets, which were printed by East Rand Academy of Excellence.

“The safety of our community is our safety,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“We are concerned about how this virus is escalating day by day and our informal settlements are really vulnerable as the shacks are so close to one another.

“Therefore, we believe educating the community can reduce the risk of spreading the virus.”

The team thanked East Rand Academy of Excellence for their contribution to the campaign.

“We hope our community will take what they have learnt to heart,” said Maome.

“We further appeal to our community not to damage essential services’ vehicles with stones when they come to the informal settlements to provide services to them.”

The community is encouraged to report all criminal and suspicious activities to the Primrose police by calling 071 675 6864/5/6/7/8/9 or the charge office on 011 842 0522.

“We urge the community not to take the law into their own hands,” said Maome.
