Police confirm attempted mob justice behind Pretoria Road shutdown

Makause informal settlement residents blocked parts of Pretoria Road with burning tyres and rocks following an attempted act of mob justice.

Motorists travelling along Pretoria Road in Primrose had to find alternative routes as part of the road was blocked off this evening, Sunday (March 1).

Pretoria Road between Stanley and Shamrock roads, which runs next to the Makause informal settlement, was blocked with rocks and burning tyres by residents after an incident of attempted mob justice, which was confirmed by Capt André de Jager, the spokesperson for Ekurhuleni District Zone Four.

“The district officer on duty explained that there was a murder in the area on Saturday night,” said de Jager.

“The community of Makause, believing they knew who was responsible for the murder, attempted to exact mob justice.

“However, they were stopped by the Primrose police.

“The suspect was taken to the Primrose Police Station to establish whether he can be linked to the murder.”

According to police the road has been reopened.
