Community warned about the dangers of drunk driving

Katlehong North SAPS share their successes.

Katlehong North police continued to crack down on crime in their area with several weekend operations.

The operations were held between February 21 and 24 and led to the arrest of 16 suspects.

During the operations officers took a zero tolerance towards drinking and driving.

Suspects were arrested for various offences.

Charges included:

• Driving under the influence of alcohol: 10

• Possession of drugs: 2

• Shoplifting: 3

• Malicious damage to property: 1.

All of the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court where their cases were postponed for various reasons.

“No one is trying to stop residents from having a good time, we just ask our community to be responsible when doing it,” said Capt Lesetja Mathobela, communications officer for the Katlehong North police in regards to driving under the influence of alcohol.

“When drinking, stay where you are until you have sobered up or arrange for alternative transport home.”
