Drugs worth almost R13 000 seized in Elsburg and Driehoek

A bribery suspect and two alleged drug dealers were nabbed by the EMPD.

An anti-drug operation was conduction by members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit on Thursday night.

The members targeted areas in the Elsburg and Germiston areas between 8pm and 11.45pm.

During the operation, three suspects were arrested, drugs were confiscated and a prohibited money transaction was halted.

In the first incident at 8.30pm in Valk Street, Elsburg, the EMPD team arrested a 30-year-old man when he was allegedly found in possession of seven ziplock bags of Kat, valued at R1 400 and R1 000 cash, following a body search.

He was taken to the Elsburg Police Station.

Then at 11pm in Rose Innes Street in Driehoek, a 47-year-old man was found loitering in the street.

He was searched by the officers and they allegedly discovered a big bag and six ziplock bags of dagga, 21 ziplock bags of Kat and 25 pieces of rock cocaine with an estimated street value of R11 300.

“As the officers were busy restraining the arrested suspect, a 28-year-old woman, claiming to be the man’s girlfriend, appeared from nowhere and requested officers to release the suspect, in exchange for R3 000,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD.

“The officers arrested her.”

Both suspects were taken to the Germiston Police Station.

The two arrested men were charged with possession of and dealing in illicit substances, while the woman was charged with bribery.

They are due to appear in the Gemiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
