Men arrested for armed robbery in Marathon

Primrose police arrested two men on a charge of armed robbery recently.

While walking in the Marathon informal settlement last Wednesday, a man was reportedly approached by two unknown men.

The men, aged 21 and 22 respectively, allegedly threatened the victim with a firearm and stole his cellphone, valued at R900.

“The suspects allegedly attempted to flee the scene, but the victim chased after them,” said Sgt Styles Maome communications officer for the Primrose police.

“He managed to catch one of the men.

“Officers passing the area on patrol noticed the commotion and stopped to investigate and the complainant explained what had allegedly happened.”

The suspect was arrested on a charge of armed robbery and police, with the help of the victim, began searching for the other suspect.

“The victim spotted him a short time later and police stopped and searched him,” said Maome.

“The cellphone was not found in his possession, but at his nearby shack.”

The man was arrested, also on a charge of armed robbery.

Both suspects have since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where their case was postponed for plea and trial.
