Qaution aims for the stars

With his debut mixtape available, Qaution is hoping to grow his career.

The spark for music was ignited in Paballo Sidzumo (21) aka Qaution when he was a tiny boy in Grade Three.

By Grade Four he had written his first song and in Grade Nine he recorded his first song titled On It.

Qaution told the GCN he loves to write songs and likes to tap into any sound, as long as you can out a vocal to the beat anything goes.

He has done both rap and hip-hop.

The born and bred Katlehong resident attended Primrose Hill Primary School and Hoërskool Vryburger High School before studying media practices at Boston Media House.

“I want to return to my studies and concentrate on marketing and advertising, but at the moment I am focused on my music,” Qaution said.

Qaution recently released his debut mixtape on all digital music platforms titled The Youthiologist, which consists of 16 songs.

“I started writing it in Grade 11 and finished last year,” he said.

“The songs deal with being a youth and how you can either find yourself or get lost during those years.”

He worked with Cancerville Studios in Katlehong to lay down the mixtape, but he normally works under Drie Vyf Entertainment, an entity started by Qaution and a group of friends.

Although he likes all the songs on his mixtape, his top two are Gang Gang and Worry Not.

Qaution is an only child and his mom, Felicity, lives in Mpumalanga.

His father, Errol, died a number of years ago.

“My mom is more of an academic and doesn’t really understand my passion for music, but she does support me,” he said.

Qaution said he enjoys being in a creative space, doing photoshoots and podcasts.

“I am an extrovert and like to be with people and enjoy teamwork,” he said.

At the moment, Qaution is concentrating on dropping music videos for the mixtape and getting more gigs.

“I might also release an EP towards the end of the year or early next year,” he said.
